Why should I get fit?

Why should I get fit?
Millions of people each year decide to improve their fitness however the majority give up within a few months. There are endless excuses for this however there are also endless reasons why you should continue on a fitness regime. Below are just a few of the most important reasons for getting fit and staying that way.

  • You look great – people who work out and take the time to get fit invariably have great bodies and while this is quite a vain reason, it is possibly the most common reason people give for going to a gym and getting physically fit! Everybody has a mental picture of how they wish they looked and a proper exercise regime will undoubtedly help you to achieve your ideal figure when combined with a well balanced nutritional diet.
  • You feel great – being physically fit makes you feel better internally. You don’t get out of breath and embarrassed when you have to run for the bus or when you are late for work. You also don’t get so red in the face or sweat so much when you have to do something physical, and your muscles don’t ache either. Mentally, you will also be stronger simply because your body is working better and you know you can do anything that is asked of you. Your immune system may also be stronger which means you will be less prone to bugs and infections which normally make your life a misery.
  • You reduce the risk of developing some serious illnesses – possibly one of the best reasons for getting and staying fit is that it reduces the risk of you developing heart disease, diabetes, fatty plaques in the major arteries, high blood pressure, gallstones and even some types of cancer. Being overweight puts excess strain on the heart and other major organs and this can lead to complications and even premature death if it is left untreated.
  • You will find it an enjoyable pastime – not many people believe this when they first start on a fitness regime however this is just because they can’t do all the great things they are able to do when they have been training for awhile. Everybody has to start with the basics however once your fitness begins to improve and you can run or swim for longer you will start to push yourself to do more and at this stage it becomes a challenge. Once you have developed a basic level of fitness the sky really is the limit.
  • So that you can watch your children grow up – once you have children you will want to watch them grow and learn at every stage of their lives however you can’t do this if you are dead! Getting fit will also encourage your children to be active and this will hopefully start a trend for life so that they continue to be fit and healthy well into adulthood.

There are hundreds of reasons for getting fit and you probably have your own so now all you need to do is get up out of the chair and do something about it. After all, there’s no time like the present and tomorrow may just be too late.
